Surah Al-Balad

I swear by this city, Makkah -

نہیں، میں قسم کھاتا ہوں اِس شہر کی

And you, [O Muhammad], are free of restriction in this city -

اور حال یہ ہے کہ (اے نبیؐ) اِس شہر میں تم کو حلال کر لیا گیا ہے

And [by] the father and that which was born [of him],

اور قسم کھاتا ہوں باپ کی اور اس اولاد کی جو اس سے پیدا ہوئی

We have certainly created man into hardship.

درحقیقت ہم نے انسان کو مشقت میں پیدا کیا ہے

Does he think that never will anyone overcome him?

کیا اُس نے یہ سمجھ رکھا ہے کہ اُس پر کوئی قابو نہ پا سکے گا؟

He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance."

کہتا ہے کہ میں نے ڈھیروں مال اڑا دیا

Does he think that no one has seen him?

کیا وہ سمجھتا ہے کہ کسی نے اُس کو نہیں دیکھا؟

Have We not made for him two eyes?

کیا ہم نے اُسے دو آنکھیں

And a tongue and two lips?

اور ایک زبان اور دو ہونٹ نہیں دیے؟

And have shown him the two ways?

اور دونوں نمایاں راستے اُسے (نہیں) دکھا دیے؟

But he has not broken through the difficult pass.

مگر اس نے دشوار گزار گھاٹی سے گزرنے کی ہمت نہ کی

And what can make you know what is [breaking through] the difficult pass?

اور تم کیا جانو کہ کیا ہے وہ دشوار گزار گھاٹی؟

It is the freeing of a slave

کسی گردن کو غلامی سے چھڑانا

Or feeding on a day of severe hunger

یا فاقے کے دن

An orphan of near relationship

کسی قریبی یتیم

Or a needy person in misery

یا خاک نشین مسکین کو کھانا کھلانا

And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion.

پھر (اس کے ساتھ یہ کہ) آدمی اُن لوگوں میں شامل ہو جو ایمان لائے اور جنہوں نے ایک دوسرے کو صبر اور (خلق خدا پر) رحم کی تلقین کی

Those are the companions of the right.

یہ لوگ ہیں دائیں بازو والے

But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left.

اور جنہوں نے ہماری آیات کو ماننے سے انکار کیا وہ بائیں بازو والے ہیں

Over them will be fire closed in.

ان پر آگ چھائی ہوئی ہوگی
